The Baron...A legend throughout France and the French Wine industry. A World War I fighter pilot credited with five aerial victories while fighting for the Allied forces. After the war, his bravado caught the eye of the heiress of Château Fortia, one of the most prestigious wine producing estates of France in the village of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. When the heiress wed the war hero, the Baron was entrusted with a prestigious vineyard legacy that would last beyond his lifetime. In 1935 the Baron spearheaded the creation of the Appellation d’Origine Contrôlée (AOC) system that would become the basis of French wine laws and a benchmark for wine regulations around the world.
The Baron is known for demanding nothing but the highest quality from his beloved Châteauneuf-du-Pape exotic red varietals. To this day, we uphold his standard for excellence for southern Rhône blends in the rare microclimates of Santa Barbara County as a toast to the man, the myth, the Baron.
